SUPPORT OUR HEALING HANDS HOMELESS HEALTH CAMPAIGN

Since 1988, Community Health Centers, Inc. has done its part to serve the needs of the underserved homeless population by operating a comprehensive homeless medical services program under the name Healing Hands Health Care Service.

Medical services provided include primary healthcare; preventive healthcare; healthcare for children; immunizations; lab; pregnancy testing; mental health counseling; health education; HIV education, counseling and testing; STD testing and treatment; pharmacy assistance; case

management; Affordable Care Act and SoonerCare insurance program enrollment; substance abuse counseling and treatment; and referrals for specialty care. Transportation is also provided.

Because uninsured families are the fastest growing percentage of homeless people in metro Oklahoma City,Community Health's homeless health care services model was expanded in recent years to include a Women and Children’s Health Access program (“WCHAP”) component, which is only partially funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Today, homeless women and children are seen by a medical professional not only at the midtown program site, but also at the following Oklahoma City homeless shelter sites: Jordan’s Crossing, an in-patient substance abuse treatment facility for mothers and children; YWCA, domestic violence shelter and transitional housing provider; Salvation Army Family Shelter; and Positive Tomorrows, school for homeless children.

Without this program, women, children and families would not have ready access to quality primary healthcare, complex laboratory services and preventive health services such as Pap smears, mammograms and well-child examinations. Women and children would suffer long waits at area emergency rooms at a higher cost to the community.

It is imperative that we continue to provide medical services to this vulnerable population; however, we need your help to continue to make this possible. Your contribution will allow us to continue to provide quality health care to those who are most in need. Please donate now!
