It's just a checkup from the neck up
Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral
to Treatment (SBIRT) is a comprehensive,
integrated, public health approach to the delivery
of early intervention and treatment services.
SBIRT offers efficient, evidence-based, and
comprehensive service to address selected
substance abuse and behavioral health
concerns among adolescents
What is Screening?
A Screening is a short questionnaire to confidentially
look at your risk of current or future problems
related to substance use, depression or trauma.
This includes information about severity of
alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drug use and abuse.
What is a Brief Intervention?
A Brief Intervention is used to increase the awareness
of your substance use. If there is a concern, the
Behavioral Health Consultant encourages change in
behavior and motivates you to seek treatment.
What is Referral to Treatment?
Referral to Treatment is for those who continue to show
significant symptoms and do not respond to the
Brief Intervention. Referral to Treatment can be an
internal referral for further services or an external
recommendation for community-based mental health
or substance abuse assessment.
Referral to treatment is necessary if
screening scores are moderate or high.
